Best dog bed for collie

April 23, 2015 By Shawna Leave a Comment

The very first dog I like to own was a collie and that was because of the TV show, Lassie. A collie always look like an elegant and well behaved dog that it seems perfect as a domestic pet.  As a collie owner, you should have an easier time looking for the right dog bed relative to, finding a dog bed for dachshunds.

In this second article on our dog bed reviews for specific breeds, I will be looking at what dog beds are best for collies

Collie dog bed buying guide

Collie has no odd behavior in general. It is smart and loves to please the owner. As such, you don’t have to look out for anything special when it comes to buying the best dog bed. The only thing you need to watch out for is the weight support. Some collies can grow to be quite heavy and weigh up to 100 pounds. For that, you need a dog bed for large dogs with good support.

Another thing to note is for you to access whether your collie will chew the stuffing from a typical dog stuffed bed. Since they are big and strong, they can easily overpower the zipper and start to chew and swallow the foam, which might cause a dog upset stomach.

Due to the above considerations, I am recommending a dog bed that is not stuffed with filler and is strong enough to support up to a 100 pounds dog. This mesh dog bed from Gale Pacific matches what I was looking for.

Similar to the dog bed I recommended in the dachshunds article, this one comes with top ratings and reviews. More than 3000 happy customers have positive things to say about this dog bed and I have summarized them below:

  • Strong mesh material to support the weight of large dogs
  • Easy to put together if you know this trick: DO NOT TIGHTEN THE BOLTS until the last one that connects the 2 spreader bars to the leg frames. When you are inserting this last bolt, make sure you leave one leg up by 6 inches while keeping the other 3 on the other. This is to relieve the stress in the fabric and allows you to tighten that last bolt in. Once that is done, adjust the leg until all 4 are on the same level. Tighten all bolts.
  • Weather resistant so it can be used in all seasons as well as in both indoors and outdoors
  • Keeps dog cool in summer and warm in winter

Summary

A very tough and durable dog bed is what is needed for a collie. This particular model has nothing for it to chew which makes them safer for large dogs. Its weather resistant fabric can hold the weight of a large dog and is definitely one of the best dog bed for your money.
