If you discount the price with the number of years this thing can last, it is probably not as expensive as you think.

It looks really good when placed in a modern kitchen.  The finishing is finger print proof so it wouldn’t have too many prints on the surface. For the budget conscious, here is the cheapest metal dog proof trash can I can locate. It has a 13 galleon capacity and costs only slightly under USD70. If that is not cheap, I don’t know what is.

This brand is called the iTouchless trash can. Like all good dog proof garbage cans, it has a lockable lid that you can use when you are out and your dogs are in. The last thing you want to see when you come home is trash everywhere!

Like the Simplehuman 13 galleon dog proof trash can, it is very durable. Reviewers on Amazon have been using this since 2007 and is still going work. Its latest version has a much quieter operation.

Unlike the Simplehuman, the trash opens via sensor technology rather than the direct pedal approach. This technology is great while it works but it is very frustrating when it doesn’t. From the reviews on Amazon, there are cases when the sensor simply stops working and you either can’t open the lids or the lids will shut and open by itself. Since it is electronic based, it will be hard for you to self repair it.

And the last point is why I didn’t select this brand as my top choice. I believe the technology is not really necessary for a trash can and just creates potential problems that shouldn’t occur in the first place.  However, this is not a bad product by any means. Quite the opposite, this is a value of money product as you get a 13 gallon metal dog proof trash can for almost half the price of its nearest competitor.
