Like Collie, you need to pay attention to the care of the Corgi hair if you don’t it to shed everywhere in your home. The best way is to brush its hair regularly using the comb for the job. I have already reviewed the best dog brush for Collie. Can you use the same undercoat rake for Corgi? Read on to find out!
How to groom a Corgi
Similar to Collie, Corgi has a double coat as well. On normal days, you typically need two types of brushes: one for the outer and one for the inner. For the outer coat, choose a brush with wide teeth and go over the hair smoothly. Once that is done, use a undercoat rake to remove the inner death hair. My recommendation for the rake is either Oster or JW Pet.
Just to make sure my recommendations are correct, I went to Amazon to double check if there are any Corgi owners using either of the 2 brands. Fortunately, the top reviewer for the JW Pet happens to be a Corgi owner and she verifies that this rake works wonders in term of hair removal.
Here is a protip for you: spray some water on the Corgi before the brushing as the water keeps the hair from flying everywhere. This works wonders if you don’t intend to vacuum your dog’s hair every time you brush him!
How to deal with Corgi shedding
Besides the usual grooming, Corgi will also shed his undercoat, usually in 2 seasons: Spring and Autumn. Now, this can be quite messy for your home if you don’t deal with the shedding as hairs will literally be everywhere.
The cure is relatively simple: once you notice the Corgi is blowing his hair, it means he is starting to shed. Immediately proceed to groom it everyday. This will prevent the Corgi from blowing the long hair into the air, which will then be carried to everywhere in the home. You can use the same comb and undercoat rake that is mentioned above for the shedding as well.
You can also try weekly bath as this will also help to remove the long hairs. Just remember to use a puppy shampoo as human shampoo might irritate the skin of the Corgi. If you need recommendations, check my review on the best smelling puppy shampoo that I have spent money on.
