Having a new puppy is exciting but there are also many challenges that are involved with having a new pet for the first time. One of those challenges is understanding what are the most common supplies needed for a new puppy.

There are several things that you need to purchase before you bring your new puppy home, especially when you have never had a pet before. Even if you have had other types of pets, but this is your first dog, there are many different things that you will have to buy in order to ensure that both you and your puppy have the best experience possible.

Essential Puppy Supplies

To help you have a successful experience with your new puppy, let’s look at the most basic supplies you’ll need for the pup. While this is not a complete list of all the things that you’ll need for the little guy, this is a collection of the must-have basics that will get you started.

Food Related Items

Of course, you will need appropriate food for the dog, usually a puppy food that will provide the necessary nutrients for a growing dog. You will also need a food bowl and a water bowl and you should change out the puppy’s water at least once a day.

Identification and Mobility Items

Other items that are absolutely essential include a collar and any necessary tags for your dog. Eventually, you will want to start leash training so it is also a good idea to go ahead and purchase a leash so that you can begin the training as quickly as possible. And, the leash and collar will come in use when you take the pup out for walks or potty breaks outside.

Fun Items

While you will be entertained just petting and watching the little guy, puppies need toys to entertain them. Otherwise, they will find shoes and other items to chew on and entertain themselves. This is not good for them, or you, so grab a couple of chew toys when you’re shopping for puppy supplies.

Sleeping and Potty Training Items

There are also several other things that you will likely want to purchase for your puppy. House training a dog can take several weeks and therefore it is a good idea to purchase a good supply of puppy training pads. These can definitely save your carpet while you are working on training your puppy to go outside.

You may or may not wish to crate train your puppy, which essentially helps your puppy learn not to go inside the house and also helps keep your puppy secure when you are away. If this is the case, you will need to purchase a crate and you will also want to purchase a supply of toys that your puppy can play with.

Additionally, a sleeping pad or bed will also be necessary so that the little cutie has a comfy place to sleep through the night.

By purchasing these items you can ensure that both you and your puppy can have an enjoyable experience and that the two of you will be able to bond. It will also help you begin training as quickly as possible. And, if you’re looking for a more complete and printable list. Try the one here.
