Let’s face it, Americans love their pets. One of the most common and pampered of all American pets is the canine. Dog ownership is at an all-time high in the United States; with billions spent every year on the purchase and up keep of these wonderful animals. Today, we will explore the most popular puppy breeds of 2014.

2014’s Popular Puppy Breeds

One of the most beloved dog breeds of all time is the German Shepherd. This strong and loyal breed has been sought after for hundreds of years because of its intelligence and sheer beauty. They were first bred in Karlsruhe, Germany. These amazing dogs finally made it to the United States where they have been used for many different applications including search and rescue, police work and they have been used by the military for a wide range of jobs. These workings dogs are also great for family protection and if properly trained; are great around children. This is probably the number one reason these cute little puppies are so sought after.

The Beagle is another great breed and they are very cute as both puppies and adults. First bred in Great Britain, the Beagle, these brown and white little dogs can weigh up to 25 pounds. What makes these dogs so special is their good manners and nice temperament. If you have children, this is one of the best breeds that you could ever own. Beagles are also a working dog and are used to sniff out explosive and illicit drugs due to their great since of smell.

The Poodle is another one of those dog breeds that just seem too sought after in large volume. The Poodles popularity has kept them on top of the dog world for many years. Originally bred in Germany, the Poodle was originally used as a hunting dog to retrieve water fowl because of their water proof coat of hair. The Poodle comes in a wide range of colors including solid white and solid black. Known for their obedience and ability to be easily house broken; Poodles make a great house dog.

Boston Terriers are some of the most adorable dogs ever and this is part of the reason this dog breed is so popular in the United States. These compact companions only weigh around 25 pounds when fully grown. The Boston Terrier was first accepted into the American Kennel Club back in 1893. Originally intended to be a working dog, this breed was used to rid buildings of rat infestations. The Boston Terrier makes a very loving pet and are very friendly around people, but this breed can also be very protective of its owner so proper training is needed if this breed is going to be around children.

These four breeds are some of the most popular puppy breeds of 2014 and you can see why. These beloved dogs will be sought after for many years to come and any pet owner should be proud to own one of these fine animals. These great all around dogs are not only cute but they are also family oriented and very intelligent. It’s no surprise these breeds are the most purchased puppies this year.
