What is the best chew proof dog bed for Labrador Retriever

April 27, 2015 By Shawna Leave a Comment

Labrador Retriever is a mid size dog that has one characteristic that makes it difficult to buy dog beds: they like to chew stuff!! In this third article of recommending dog beds by breeds (see past articles: dog bed for dachshunds and dog bed for collie), I am going to see which dog bed is best for chewers like the Labrador Retriever. Most dog beds are filled by cotton that can are dangerous to the dogs when being swallowed so the plan is to avoid those and see which other options are available

Best chewproof dog bed

When looking for chewproof dog bed, one brand keeps popping out and that is Kuranda. When I look through the warranty, it says that it is guaranteed to be chew proof for at least one year. If a company is confident in making such a statement, it probably says a lot about the quality of the dog bed.

Why makes Kuranda the best chew proof dog bed?

If you read through Kuranda’s faq section, you will know their secret of making chew proof bed lies in their patented design. Specifically, the edge of the fabric is being protected inserting them into the track that runs the length of the fabric. In other words. there is no ‘starting point’ for the dog to begin their chewing feast and hence reduces the chances of the dog beds being destroyed by chewers.

Other benefits

The main fabric of the dog bed is made of mesh. The mesh itself is tough and sturdy and will be able to support a mid sized dog like the Labrador Retriever. It is even waterproof. In case your dog pisses at the bed, it will not leak to the floor and the fabric itself can be washed to remove the smell and stain.

Most feedback from dog owners found this bed to be comfortable for the dogs. They like to lay in them without too much fuss. For some of the dogs, this has even become their preferred resting place in the home as they will stay glued to it the moment they enter the house.

One benefit of having the dog bed being raised from the floor is that the moving air will remove any smell from the dogs. If your dog has been resting on a blanket or pillow you will notice the smell after a couple of weeks. With this dog bed, the smell doesn’t happen probably due to the better air circulation.

Setting the whole dog bed is easy. All you need is a wrench and screw driver. By following the simple instructions that come with the bed, assembling this thing should take you more than 15 minutes.

Conclusion

To conclude, this is a solid dog bed for Labrador Retriever and other chewers. If you are looking for dog beds that can’t be chewed up, Kuranda is a solid pick. Not only it is chew proof but the mesh fabric is durable, waterproof and is comfortable to lie on. For Labrador Retriever owners, this bed should definitely be in your to buy list.
