When it comes to dog beds, it can be confusing to some dog owners as they need to figure out which model or brands is best for their pet. I have already done dog bed reviews for quite a few different breeds of dogs including Husky, Labrador etc. In this article, I am looking at the cute Maltese and see how bed is best for this little dog puppy.
For a Maltese, here are some things you need to look out for. The most important is that they tend to chew on the seams and drag out all the cotton or foam inside the bed. This means which brand you are buying, they must be able to hide the seams or at least make it difficult for the dog to do the damage.
Another thing to look out for is that Maltese seems to love blankets. I have seen some Maltese owners talking about the use of blankets to focus the dog’s attention from destroying the bed to playing with it.
Based on the above, one of the best dog bed for Maltese is this cave bed from Snoozer. The “cave” features work a lot like a blanket so it distracts the dog from destroying. Moreover, none of the seams are exposed on the outside so it is not easy for the Maltese to attack them.
To me though, the biggest benefit is that dogs like the Maltese simply love to burrow themselves inside the bed. Some might love it to such an extend that they will not want to get out. I think this is the strength of the cave bed design and is one of the reason I am recommending it here again.
In terms of quality, the foam used is the normal fleece and should last you for at least 2 years. Some reviewers felt that the quality of the fleece should be better. However, considering the low price point of this dog bed, there is nothing really complaint about if the dog likes it and you can used it for 2 years.
One thing that I do hope will be improved is waterproofing the dog bed insert. This will prevent any potential liquid from reaching the foam and reducing its durability. I can always buy a waterproof bed liner but due to the shape of the bed, it is sometimes to fit the liner into the dog bed itself.
If you are interested in buying this dog bed for your Maltese, I suggest getting the small size version, rather than the medium. It is rather spacious inside so given that a Maltese doesn’t grow big, the small size will be ideal, not to mention cheaper.
Conclusion
To encounter the tendency of a Maltese to destroy dog beds, it is important to buy one that is playful and allows it to focus its attention elsewhere. The cave bed from Snoozer fits into this description easily, which is why I am recommending it as the best dog bed for Maltese.
